Tara started on the road to 1,203 in her first game as a head coach when the 26-year old led Idaho to a 70-68 victory over Northern Montana on Dec. 1, 1978. In her first decade on the sidelines, she racked up 206 wins, earned five postseason berths and turned around programs at Idaho, Ohio State and Stanford.
Lured to The Farm by former athletic director Andy Geiger prior to the 1985-86 season, VanDerveer took a Cardinal program that had been 14-42 in the two years before her arrival to a 27-5 mark and the Sweet Sixteen in just her third season in charge (1988).
